This article features prayer for a family member or friend of a person with MECFS (Myalgic Encephelomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome).
Some family and friends won't give help. Others will give amazing help and support.
The prayers allow for both possibilities.
This is one of a number of articles featuring prayer for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome healing and support.
This is also the "Saturday" prayer. At least once a year a group of us pray the prayers on a weekly cycle.
If you wish to join us in the facebook prayer group, we would be delighted for you to join your mind with ours for positive outcomes for the ME/CFS community .
You will find links to the prayers for other days of the week at the bottom of this healing article.

On this page I use the term ME/CFS, an abbreviation for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Please use the wording for the diagnosis you have been given or
prefer.
The desire for more support from family and friends is shared by so many of us who live with chronic illness.
Similarly, many have a heart full of gratitude for those who give help and support.
Please scroll down to find the prayer of your choice.
Dear God,
We lift to you in prayer the family and friends of a person diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis or Fibromyalgia.
We thank you for all those who help or find kindness in their hearts.
We offer you any distress they feel about the pain they see this person going through.
We offer you any anxiety they feel about their ability to cope.
Strengthen a family member or friend to be able to deal with the
changes that the illness brings to their own life.
Even when they are looking after someone, we also see them finding ways to look after themselves.
When
they act in ways which don't promote the person's health, we see
them being gentle on themselves.
We know there is no perfect way to look after
someone.
We see this person drawing on your strength and finding out that your strength never fails.
God, pour out your blessings on a person with a family
member or friend with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome /ME.
Nurture them. Support them.
Guide them to see the person and not just the illness.
Allow them to receive the gifts that the person with CFS/ME has to offer.
We ask that a friend or family member of someone with CFS /ME is blessed with
.... the pleasure of loving,
.... the pleasure of being of service,
.... and the pleasure of a life in which they claim
the power to make a difference to the life of another.
Thank you.
Amen
Below is an adaptation of the prayer above, to be said if you are a family member or friend who is a carer / caregiver or helper.
If you are the person with ME/CFS even if you are living with very severe ME (as I once was) you are still in many ways your own main carer or caregiver.
Click on the next link to move through to a version of this prayer to be said by yourself as a person with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis #pwme (or long covid or other severe chronic illness).
It's OK to feel ill and fed up. It is normal.
Dear God,
As you know, I am a family member or friend of a person diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis or Fibromyalgia.
I thank you for those times when I feel eager to help.
I thank you for those times when I find it easy to be kind.
I offer you those times when I wish I could do something else for a change,
and any time when I am short tempered.
I offer you any distress I feel about the pain I see this person going through.
I offer you any anxiety I feel about my ability to cope.
Strengthen me as a family member or friend to be able to deal with the
changes that the illness of this person brings to my own life.
Even when I am looking after this person, guide me to also look after myself.
If at times, I act in ways which don't promote the person's health, help me to be gentle on myself.
Help me to remember there is no perfect way to look after
someone.
It is always a process of learning.
I see myself drawing on your strength and finding out that your strength never fails.
God, pour out your blessings on me, a family
member or friend of a person with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Nurture me. Support me.
If there are times when I see the illness more than the person, guide me to see through the symptoms to the person who is still there, still them.
Allow me to receive the gifts that the person with MECFS has to offer.
As a friend or family member of this person with MECFS, I ask to be blessed with
.... the pleasure of loving,
.... the pleasure of being of service,
.... and the pleasure of a life in which I claim
the power to make a difference to the life of this person.
Thank you.
Amen
Dear Love itself,
We pray for a family member or friend who creates an environment which is not helpful to the physical health or emotional health of a person with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME.
We pray for a family member or friend who causes harm to the person through lack of adaptation to their symptoms.
Perhaps they feel anger or frustration towards the person
for having an illness.
Perhaps they miss the person they were.
Perhaps they miss the things they used to receive from that person when they were in full health.
Perhaps they blame the illness for showing up ways in which they are not the person they would like to be.
Help them to release any anger on their own without taking it out on the person with CFS/ME.
If they have treated someone with CFS/ME without kindness, give them the courage to see the mistakes they have made.
Pour down your Love upon them so they receive such a revelation of Love that Love overflows onto this person in their life.
Guide them to ask for and receive your forgiveness.
Guide them to forgive themselves.
Help them to acknowledge the harm they have done to the person with CFS/ME.
If this person doesn't have the capacity to adapt to the illness,
we see them finding ways to communicate this clearly and without blame.
Or perhaps we see this person learning how to be neutral and feeling proud of their learning.
Or perhaps we see this person learning how to help and feeling proud of their learning.
We see them finding the strength to be the person they want to be.
Whenever they have the option to do so, we see the person with CFS/ME having the clarity and courage to move away from any relationship that is harmful to them.
Beyond all these words we find your spaciousness and we rest in YOU, HERE and NOW.
We hand this over.
Thank you God.
Amen
Dear Love itself,
We pray for any health professional who has made a decision which creates an environment which is harmful to the physical health or emotional health of a person with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME.
Guide the health professional to spot their mistake and behave wisely.
If they chose the profession to be helpful, remind them of their motivation, their mission in life.
Any lack of care, lack of information, and following the line to keep face, is NOT acceptable.
We speak safety into the lives of those with ME/CFS who are dependent on health
professionals to make wise decisions .
AMEN
We ask for transformation for those who dearly long to support their friend, family member or client with ME/CFS.
(Or those of us with chronic illness who want to learn to better support ourselves.)
Help them with those characteristics which stand in their way.
Remove all obstacles.
Guide them in wisdom and understanding.
We see them feeling lovingly supported every step of the way.
AMEN
When you are healthy and mobile you often have choices about who to allow into your life.
If you are a person with ME/CFS you may be restricted in those choices by being housebound or bedbound.
The advice to sustain health and hope for recovery is to pace yourself .
This means support and help become essential.
The final prayer is an affirmation that regardless of any current lack of support from family and friends, somehow support and help WILL come to pass. We do not need to know how.
I have the opportunity for REST and RECOVERY.
I have the opportunity for REST and RECOVERY.
I have the opportunity for REST and RECOVERY.
For myself and all who read this.
AMEN
If I feel I am causing
distress by being ill, I hand over my distress.
I see strength in the
one who sees me.
I choose to believe I can be seen with the health I have.
I choose to believe there is one, maybe many, who
have the strength to see me.
I have the strength to see me.
I choose to see myself with the health I have.
I see myself.
God, I let you see me.
Thanks be.
AMEN

Katherine
